Save this house

Yesterday our company received a distraught call from a woman who is currently having her roof replaced. The contractor left the roof with exposed plywood over her garage overnight. With rain, the roof leaked badly into her garage. When we arrived to seal the roof up, we found many issues with the current installation (or lack thereof). Learning that this contractor also did her upper roof, we found the house does not meet minimum building code standards as she is missing elements of the roofing system. In a nutshell, the whole roof needs to be replaced and ASAP as she currently has exposed wood just temporarily sealed by us.

This story is touching as the lady is working extra shifts and covering for others that can't be in the office due to COVID.  Her mother passed away, and the majority of her belongings were being stored in the garage - now soaked from the leaking. Her 80 year old father is living with her and they haven't been able to return to his house in New Brunswick due to travel restrictions.

I am hoping with some help, to reach out to the Ottawa roofing community, to see if we may be able to get some assistance with volunteer labor to get the work done.

I have reached out to our suppliers and shingle manufacturers to see what they may be able to do in terms of material donations.

Her insurance has completely denied her as it is considered shotty workmanship and a job in progress. I have not charged for her the temps that we have done either as I just can't bring myself to in this situation.

Looking to see if we might be able to get some support and community outreach for this family! We will do the heavy work, just need some help to get there and get this family on their feet!
